FAQ

Will we be sharing the yacht with strangers?

NO! Unlike many charters and most cruise and learn programs your charter includes the entire vessel. The only person not from your party is the Captain. Due North becomes your personal retreat while cruising the spectacular coastline.

How many people can you accommodate?

All voyages are custom planned around your agenda and your booking is for the entire vessel, this prevents being forced into close quarters with total strangers.

What does a charter trip cost?

Because each trip is custom planned around you, costs will vary depending on different factors and will be calculated when you book.

Where are you based?

Our boats are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We are fortunate to have some of the best cruising grounds in the world on our doorstep.  During the summer Due North may be found on the West coast of Vancouver Island, in the Broughton Archipelago, or further North on the Central Coast.  On these trips fly in/fly out legs are certainly available.

What is a typical day like?

During breakfast we firm up plans based on weather, itinerary and goals.  The day may be a passage, a shorter trip with docking practice, or a lazy day with beachcombing and fishing.  Lunch may be underway or on a quiet beach.  You may opt to try your hand at prawning or crabbing, or explore the shoreline by kayak.  Where possible we may visit historical and First Nations sites.  The day usually finishes savoring dinner in a tranquil anchorage.  Before retiring for the evening, we will discuss options and review the weather prediction for the next day.

My goal is to give you the Nordhavn owners’ experience while incorporating your objectives in a real world style.

Will we see wildlife?

There are no guarantees, but many voyages encounter seals, otters, eagles, fish, dolphins, whales and even wolves and bears.  Have your camera ready, all photos on this website were shot during charters.

What will the weather be like?

Coastal weather can change quickly. Depending on the time of year your voyage is planned you may experience sun, rain, or wind, sometimes all in the same day! It is best to pack clothing that can be used in layers, and a rainproof/windproof jacket is a must.

What should we bring?

All food, linens and bedding are supplied. You will need to pack your clothing and all personal items.  Suggested items include sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and layered clothing. Don’t forget your camera, swimsuit, walking shoes and a good book. Please pack all your items in soft sided duffels that you can unpack into your stateroom.

What about sea sickness?

If you are prone to sea sickness, it is best to bring your own medication or treatment.  Consult with your medical practitioner before leaving home.

What about food and drink?

Food is included in the charter cost and prior to boarding we will talk about your likes and dislikes.  Highlights can include lamb, steak, chicken, fresh fish and seafood, and the cooking is done from scratch.   During your cruise, the food will include the best of fresh and seasonal ingredients, and we include fresh seafood, caught by YOU!, whenever possible.

Meals are prepared as a team effort and you will be expected to participate in meals or cleanup. Please advise of any special dietary requirements ahead of time. We provide coffee, tea, and other drinks of your preference but please arrange to bring your own alcohol if desired.

For an added level of luxury a personal chef can be hired at additional cost.  Please inquire if this is something you would like to treat yourselves with!

Do I require a fishing license?

If you intend or doing any fishing, crabbing, or prawning, a saltwater license is required. These can be purchased by clicking here.

Can we bring a pet?

No, ‘Due North’ is a private luxury yacht and pets are not allowed.

What other services do you provide?

We are available to perform and coordinate hands-on training on your own boat, trip planning, provisioning, logistics and many other related services, lets’s talk!  Rob is also a Certified Professional Yacht Broker and he is available to act as a buyers agent and perform pre-purchase consulting.

Can certification training be obtained?

Yes, at an additional cost.

You can obtain a Basic Power Boating Standard, Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate, and VHF Radio Certificate.

An Intermediate Power Boating Standard can be achieved during a 7 or 10 day trip.

Why should we charter with you?

Chartering Due North gives you the opportunity to have the ‘owners’ experience’ to try before you buy.

You receive hands on experience while enjoying a real cruise in beautiful surroundings guided by an experienced captain.

Previous clients have moved forward to purchase two Nordhavn 43’s, two Nordhavn 52’s, a Passage maker 60, a Diesel Duck 49, a large power Catamaran, and others are currently shopping for the right boat.

We have been helping future Nordhavn owners since 2008.

What is your Cancellation policy?

Each charter cruise is custom booked for you. The charter may be canceled by giving notice in writing at least 60 days prior to the departure date. A Refund of deposit will be made less 10% of total charter fee as an administration cost. If cancellation is made within 60 days of departure date no refund will be provided but we will make every attempt to rebook a suitable date.

How do we pay?

Booking the charter requires a 50% deposit by bank transfer.  The balance is due prior to boarding by cash or bank transfer.
